2023 presidential poll rigged, INEC Chair violated constitution – Datti Baba-Ahmed

Datti Baba-Ahmed, former presidential running mate of the Labour Party, has insisted that the 2023 presidential election was rigged.

Baba-Ahmed made the remark while calling for a credible individual to head the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ahead of the 2027 polls.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Baba-Ahmed accused the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, of breaching the constitution during the 2023 election.

He said: “A credible person, that’s all I want and not someone who will clearly read what the constitution provides— 25 per cent in at least 2/3 of the states of the federation including the FCT— and go ahead to breach the Constitution, put Nigeria in what it is today.

“If you recall, I told you that throughout history, individuals make or break nations, this man is going to be responsible for what has happened, it’s wrong.

“Another arm of government upheld what he did, as small as I am and by the service of God Almighty, it’s wrong what they upheld.

“The court has the power to say that you are wrong even if you are not wrong and we were not wrong, that election was rigged, up till now the results are not consistent with the Nigerian Constitution.”
