The Osun State Police Command has asked the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, to provide proof of the reported assassination attempt on his life before it can launch a full investigation.
Omoyele had claimed that gunmen ambushed his vehicle along Ikirun Road in Osogbo and later attacked his residence using two vehicles, a Hilux van and a Toyota Highlander. The Amotekun Corps confirmed that he sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment under tight security.
However, the Osun Police spokesperson said the command needs verifiable evidence such as the vehicle and other materials from the scene to back up the allegation. The police emphasized that without proper documentation or physical proof, the incident cannot be officially classified as an assassination attempt.
This request, according to police protocol, is to ensure investigations are based on facts and not assumptions. The case has drawn public attention, especially amid rising security concerns in the state.
