
A 27-year-old labourer at the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr Joseph Anighoro Ikana, has allegedly been tortured to death by hoodlums.
The deceased coughed blood after he was tortured through the night on Thursday by his killers. He died on Friday, DAILY POST can report.
The deceased was accused of allegedly selling an electric socket to a young man who was seen with the sockets they were installing in the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun.
Without due investigation by the police, his killers took the law into their hands and cut his life short, but the stolen sockets were not found in his possession.
The police have deposited the remains of the deceased in the General Hospital morgue, Ughelli.
Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Human Rights, Comrade Kelvin Ejumudo, in his Facebook timeline, said the level of injustice will not be condoned, insisting that everyone involved in the brutal, dastardly act must face the full weight of the law.
Comrade Ejumudo urged the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Orogun Community to fish out the killers of Ikana and bring them to justice.
He said, “The Ughelli Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, and the member representing the people of Ughelli North Constituency in the Delta House of Assembly, Omonade Matthew, must ensure this matter is not swept under the carpet.”
Comrade Ejumudo also appealed to the youths of Orogun Community to be calm and not take the law into their hands over the incident but allow the police to carry out their investigation.
