Teachers’ recruitment not cancelled – Abia Govt debunks reports

Abia State government through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has debunked reports claiming that employment of new teachers in the state has been cancelled.

The ministry in a statement by Uchechukwu Kalu, Permanent Secretary, on behalf of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, urged Abia residents to disregard the false information.

The state government also expressed dismay that some private school proprietors in Abia have bluntly refused to participate in the ongoing 2025 annual school census exercise.

In response to the development, the state government has provided three zonal census centres where all schools that have not participated in the exercise will be captured in the annual census from August 25 to September 11, 2025.

According to a statement, Abayi Girls Secondary School Aba would serve as the venue for the Abia South census.

Ibeku High School, Umuahia, and Ebem Primary School will be used for the census in Umuahia and Ohafia zones, respectively.
