Troops kill two suspected foreign bandits in Sokoto

Soldiers have killed two suspected foreign bandits, known locally as Lakurawa, during an operation in Mano community, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Residents said the incident happened at the Mano market, a place the attackers usually visited to buy food and other supplies.

An eyewitness explained that the soldiers engaged the criminals in a gun battle, killing two of them, as reported by New Telegraph.

The operation, led by Major Chukuma, who oversees security in Tangaza, Gudu, Binji, and Silame LGAs, also led to the recovery of three rifles and five motorcycles.

Sources added that the remaining fighters fled after facing heavy fire from the troops, who then chased them toward their hideouts in Tangaza forest.

Border communities in Tangaza, Gudu, and Argungu areas of Sokoto and Kebbi states have repeatedly suffered raids by the Lakurawa because of their closeness to Niger Republic.
