A senator representing Kogi West has disclosed how a bandit leader sent him a direct threat after he privately funded construction of a military barrack to combat insurgency in his constituency.
Senator Sunday Karimi made the revelation during a Senate session covered by Platinum TV, sharing information he received from a kidnap victim who spent months with bandits. “One of those guys that was kidnapped and was with the bandits for months—when he was released, he made a statement. It’s all over social media, and I quote what he said. One of the bandit leaders told him. One of the leaders of the bandits said your senator built a barrack for soldiers to attack us,” Karimi revealed.
The senator confirmed his personal investment in the military facility to enhance security in his constituency. “Yes, I built barrack which I financed privately. It cost me a lot of money just to ensure security in that environment,” he stated.
Karimi then shared the threatening message conveyed through the released hostage. “They said, ‘Go and tell him, with his barracks and his soldiers, we are waiting and looking for them. We have generals in the field here,'” he quoted the bandit leader as saying.
The senator used the opportunity to make an urgent appeal to Senate President Godswill Akpabio about the deteriorating security situation. “Mr. President, we’ve got to do something about it. Yes, the federal government is trying. Their plan to set up the Forest Guard is a noble move, but we need to do something urgently,” he pleaded.
