A notorious armed robber and kidnap syndicate has been smashed by the Plateau State Police Command with the arrest of some suspects who have been terrorizing communities in the Bassa Local Government Area of the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, who disclosed this while parading the suspects at the Command’s headquarters in Jos on Tuesday, said they were arrested as a result of credible intelligence gathering by police personnel.
While briefing newsmen during the exercise, CP Adesina said the Command had received a distress call on August 13, 2025, from Abubakar Mohammadu, Nasiru Umar, and Haruna Mohammed, all residents of the Kishika area, Binchin Village of Bassa LGA.
According to the police chief, the trio reported that on July 27, 2025, at about 10:00 p.m., while on their way from Bukuru Cattle Market where they had sold three cows, they were attacked and robbed by some armed hoodlums with a locally made gun.
“During the attack, the hoodlums robbed them of the following sums of money: Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N600,000.00), Four Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira (N418,000.00), and Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (N900,000.00), totaling about One Million, Nine Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira (N1,918,000.00), all proceeds from the sale of their cows,” Adesina said.
Continuing, he said the victims were also robbed of their phones, knives, and walking sticks.
“Following the report, detectives from the Bassa Division immediately swung into action, and as a result, the following suspects were arrested in connection with the offense: Jafaru Sale, Abdulsalam Adam, and Mamuda Musa.
“The suspects confessed to being responsible for the armed robberies that have been carried out in the Bassa and Jengre communities,” he added.
The Police Commissioner further revealed that the Command made another breakthrough in Langtang South LGA where a locally fabricated rifle was recovered from the home of a suspected kidnap kingpin during a search.
The CP added that though the suspect had escaped during the raid, efforts are on to track and arrest him.
