Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accepted three positions the minister canvassed since 2022.
Olayinka said PDP would not have experienced leadership crisis if it had listened to Wike’s clamour in the past.
He spoke against the backdrop of the outcome of the PDP’s National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting .
During the NEC meeting, PDP zoned its presidential ticket to the South, National Chairman to the North, among other resolutions.
Reacting in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Olayinka said: “Wike’s position in 2022, if they had listened to him probably the party won’t be where it is today. Three positions that he canvassed which the party said no and it has accepted those three positions now.
“First, on the issue of zoning, he canvassed three years ago, the issue of National Secretary of the party – he kept saying that you can’t do anything outside what the constitution of the party said. Sam Anyanwu, you can’t remove him as National Secretary except he resigns which he did not.
“The party after going back and forth, after a lot of damages have been done, came back to say that we agree with you.
“Thirdly, Wike said you can’t remove and take away the position of the Deputy National Chairman, North, as it was because the constitution of the party said when the Chairman resigns or dies, the Deputy National Chairman of that zone takes over in acting capacity.
“It also stipulated where national officers of the party should emerge from…. Three positions he canvassed for that the party said he was wrong have been accepted by the party. On these three issues now he has been right and he has also asked a fundamental question. Is it not now too late?”
