The alarming condition, which begins as a boil before bursting and eating deep into the flesh until it destroys bones, has hit Malabu community in Fufore LGA the hardest.
Confirming the outbreak on Saturday, Dr. Suleiman Bashir, Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, said some patients are receiving care at Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH), Yola, while samples have been sent to the NCDC in Abuja for urgent analysis.…….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
“Results are expected within 10 days. We encourage victims to accept medical treatment rather than rely on traditional medicine,” Bashir cautioned.
So far, only 8 patients have agreed to undergo free government-sponsored treatment at MAUTH, while others remain in local clinics or at home.
Residents described the disease as excruciating. One victim, Mrs. Phibi Sabo, said:
> “It started like a boil with pains, later got swollen and burst, then began to eat up the flesh on my leg, damaging the bones and causing serious pain.”
Another victim, Junaidu Adamu, lamented spending over ₦200,000 on treatment without recovery.
The District Head of Malabu, Aliyu Hammawa, confirmed at least 30 cases, warning that the situation was worsening.
