The attack, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. along the Okpella–Agenebode axis, also claimed the life of a civilian driver. The convoy was escorting a Chinese national from BUA Cement Company, Okpella, who was abducted during the incident.
In a statement released Saturday, the NSCDC confirmed the tragic deaths, describing it as a grievous loss to the Corps.
> “Armed men laid an ambush on the convoy of a Chinese national… leading to the death of eight (8) NSCDC personnel and one civilian driver,” the statement read.
A total of 12 people were on escort duty during the ambush. Three survivors are currently receiving medical care, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue.
Among those killed was Chief Corps Assistant (CCA) Oluwatosin Sunday of the Ondo State Command, attached to the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Department.
