What Happened — The Shooting
Here is what is currently known about the shooting:
The event took place on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University (UVU), in Orem, Utah. It was part of Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour,” which included campus events.
At the time, Kirk was at one of his “Prove Me Wrong” debate tables, a format where he sits and takes questions from the audience.
Eyewitnesses say he was debating a question involving mass shootings and transgender people when from a nearby building (about 100-200 yards / ~90-180 meters away), a single shot was fired.
The shot struck him in the neck. He collapsed after the shot. There was visible bleeding.
The crowd panicked and dispersed. Campus and local law enforcement responded. A suspect was taken into custody, though early reports suggest that person was not ultimately tied to firing the shot. The investigation is ongoing.
