According to a revised provisional list of speakers obtained from the UN headquarters, Tinubu will deliver his speech on Wednesday, September 24, during the afternoon session around 8:30 pm local time (2:30 pm Nigerian time).

Nigeria on the Global Stage

Tinubu will be the 17th speaker on the second day of the high-level debate. The gathering will feature 195 world leaders, including 98 heads of state, 44 heads of government, five vice presidents, four deputy prime ministers, 37 ministers, one crown prince, and four chairs of delegation.

As is tradition, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will open the debate, followed by U.S. President Donald Trump, representing the host country.

What to Expect

While the exact content of Tinubu’s address remains under wraps, expectations are high. Diplomats believe his speech will touch on Nigeria’s economic reforms, regional security, climate change, and Africa’s push for greater representation in global decision-making.

In 2024, Vice-President Kashim Shettima spoke on behalf of Tinubu during the first day of the debate, an unusual move since UN traditions typically reserve such early slots for heads of state. This year, however, Tinubu is expected to appear in person, barring last-minute changes.

Why It Matters

With Nigeria facing pressing challenges—economic hardship, insecurity, and calls for stronger governance—Tinubu’s appearance at UNGA will be closely watched both at home and abroad. His ability to present Nigeria as a stabilizing force in Africa could shape international perception and investment interest in the country.…….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
