Trump’s ally, Ben Carson sworn in as national advisor

Dr. Ben Carson was on Wednesday sworn in as National Advisor for Nutrition, Health, and Housing at the US Department of Agriculture, USDA.

Carson served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in President Donald Trump’s previous administration.

According to a USDA statement, Carson will advise President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Rollins on policies related to nutrition, rural healthcare, and housing.

He will also serve as the department’s chief representative on these issues, work with the President’s Make America Healthy Again Commission, and collaborate with USDA’s Rural Development Mission Area.

Carson said he was honored to take on the role, stressing the need for policies that improve nutrition and support vulnerable families.

Earlier this year, Trump appointed Carson as vice chair of the newly established Religious Liberty Commission.

Trump also announced during the American Cornerstone Institute’s Founders’ Dinner on Saturday that Carson will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom at a White House ceremony.

Carson previously received the same honor in 2008 under President George W. Bush.

He is the founder of the American Cornerstone Institute, an organization that promotes principles of faith, liberty, community, and life.
