NYSC swears in 1,420 for Batch B Stream II in Osun

The National Youth Service Corps in Osun State has sworn in a total of 1,420 corps members into the 2025 Batch B Stream II orientation course.

The Osun NYSC State Coordinator, Agbor Ndoma Obim, made this known while delivering his opening address at the opening ceremony at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State, on Friday.

Agbor, who said the presence of the corps members signified the beginning of a memorable journey of service, patriotism, and nation-building, added that the orientation course is designed to instill discipline, resilience, civic responsibility, and leadership in the graduate youths while equipping them for the challenges of national development.

“Your presence here signifies the beginning of a memorable journey of service, patriotism, and nation-building. It has been carefully structured to introduce you to the ideals of the Scheme, inculcate discipline, promote physical fitness, and prepare you for the task of service to our dear nation,” he said.

While reminding the corps members that their security and welfare remained paramount to the NYSC, Agbor disclosed that the scheme was in collaboration with security agencies and host communities to ensure their safety throughout the service year.

He also charged the corps members to be security conscious, avoid unnecessary risks, and engage in responsible use of social media.

“I implore you, however, to always be security conscious and avoid unnecessary risks. Let me also caution you to use social media responsibly. Avoid posting sensitive camp activities or internal protocols online under the guise of content creation. The camp is a regimented environment, and discipline remains a core principle of the NYSC Scheme. Sharing unauthorised content could breach security, violate the privacy rights of your colleagues, and undermine the integrity of the orientation programme.

“Be ambassadors of the Scheme and your family both online and offline,” he counselled.

The Osun NYSC boss also appreciated the state government and partner organisations for their contributions towards ensuring the smooth running of the NYSC programmes.

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in his address, charged the corps members to see their mobilisation as a significant milestone in their lives as young graduates and Nigeria’s future leaders.

Represented by Moshood Olagunju, the State Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Governor Adeleke maintained that the NYSC scheme remained one of the most enduring legacies of Nigeria.

The governor enjoined the corps members to see themselves as ambassadors of unity, progress, and peace.

He said, “The NYSC Scheme remains one of the most enduring legacies of our national history. For over five decades, it has served as a unifying platform, bringing together young Nigerians from different ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds to live, train, and serve together. This has greatly strengthened our bonds of unity and fostered national development.

“This orientation course marks the beginning of your service year, and I urge you to take it very seriously. The activities lined up for you are not mere formalities. They are deliberate efforts to prepare you for the responsibilities of nation-building. As you commence this journey, I enjoin you to see yourselves not only as corps members but also as ambassadors of unity, progress, and peace.

“Permit me to remind you that the world is watching you. Your conduct and attitude throughout this service year will reflect not only on you as individuals but also on the institutions you represent and the nation at large. Therefore, be disciplined, resourceful, and committed to the ideals of the NYSC. The service year offers you a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of Osun State.

“Whether in education, healthcare, rural development, agriculture, or community service, I encourage you to leave lasting footprints of service in the communities where you will be posted. Make it a point to add value and transform lives wherever you find yourselves. Let this year not just be a year of service, but a year of discovery and impact.”

He commended the NYSC for its efforts at repositioning the scheme and pledged his administration’s commitment to support the scheme in the state.
