The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with an attempt to disrupt the announcement of results during the Student Union Government, SUG, election at Ebonyi State University.
The incident occurred while the election results were being announced, when the suspects allegedly fired gunshots to disperse the crowd.
Unfortunately, the bullet struck a student, who was immediately rushed to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA), Abakaliki, for medical attention.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki.
According to the statement, the swift response of police operatives on the ground led to the arrest of the following suspects: Lawrence Azubuike ‘m’, Ibe Kenneth ‘m’, and Njoku Joshua ‘m’, as well as the recovery of a locally made pistol used in the act.
The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
