Okpebholo proposes supplementary budget of N125.6bn

The Edo State Government has proposed a supplementary budget of N125, 600 billion to be presented to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and passage.

DAILY POST reports that the State Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor disclosed this while briefing newsmen on resolutions taken by the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Okoebor said the amount shored up the initial approved 2025 budget by the House of Assembly from N675.220 billion to N799.820 billion.

He said the supplementary budget was 18 per cent higher than the initially approved budget.

He added that the resolution for the supplementary budget was arrived at during an emergency executive meeting presided over by Governor Monday Okpebholo, who is the Chairman-in-Council.

The Commissioner hinged the rationale for the supplementary budget on the state government’s commitment to infrastructural development.

He said in the supplementary budget, the sum of N563 billion has been allocated to capital expenditure, representing a 25 per cent increment, as against the initial N450 billion.

Okoebor further stated that in the previously approved budget for the 2025 fiscal year, the recurrent expenditure was about 33 per cent of the budget while capital was 67 per cent.

He, however, posited that in the revised budget about 70 per cent goes to capital expenditure as against 30 per cent for recurrent expenditure.

According to him, this shows the commitment of Governor Monday Okpebholo to infrastructural development in Edo State.

“The increment in the budget is about N125 billion, which signifies about 18 per cent of the previous budget. Recurrent increased by about N12 billion, while capital is about N113 billion from the previous one. Given a 25 per cent increment in the Capital expenditure and a 5 per cent increase in recurrent expenditure.

“It clearly shows that the government is concerned about infrastructural development making Edo people happy. We have done about 254KM of roads across the state, and many more construction works are ongoing.

“Recurrent expenditure has about a 5 per cent increment as the increase in minimum wage necessitated that increment, including a lot of employment that the present administration did in the hospital management board for over 1000, and it needs to be captured”, he said.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohombamu opined that the revised budget is expected to be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage.
