UCL: ‘He makes things happen, explosive, quick’ – Hargreaves, McCoist name best Chelsea player

Former Manchester United and England midfielder, Owen Hargreaves, and ex-Ranger star, Ally McCoist, have singled out Chelsea winger, Pedro for praise after the Blues’ 1-0 over Jose Mourinho’s Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday.

They said the Portugal international was the Blues’ best player on the night.

Chelsea beat Benfica led by their former boss, Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, with Alejandro Garnacho forcing an own goal from the visitors.

Before the game on Tuesday night, Mourinho had hailed Pedro Neto as one of the best wingers in the world while addressing his pre-match press conference.

“I thought he was Chelsea’s best player,” Owen Hargreaves told TNT Sports.

“He makes things happen; he’s so positive and explosive and quick. That’s the thing I like about him. It feels like Neto was the one creating a lot of the chances.

“Pedro Neto was by far the best player on the pitch. He was the star of the show for me.”

McCoist added that Neto “was the pick of the bunch for me tonight. He’s been terrific.”

On Chelsea’s performance, McCoist added: “It was all about the result. It was important Chelsea got the three points and they did that but not a lot more than that.

“Benfica didn’t do enough with the chances but a massive three points for Chelsea. The result was far more important than the performance.”

Chelsea return to Premier League action this weekend with a huge match against Liverpool.
