Former Arsenal player, Robert Pires believes his old club will part ways with manager Mikel Arteta if he fails to win the Premier League title this season.
According to Pires, the Premier League title has eluded Arteta, and Arsenal will find another manager to replace the Spaniard if he fails to deliver the English top-flight league trophy this term.
Arteta has failed to win the Premier League title for the Gunners since he took charge of the Emirates club five years ago.
Arteta’s side have finished as runners-up in the Premier League for the past three seasons.
As a result, Arsenal backed Arteta with a significant spending spree during the summer transfer window and he is desperate to win the English top-flight league this season.
“In my opinion, if Arsenal don’t win a trophy this year, the management will consider finding another coach,” Pires told Foot Mercato.
“He’s been there for five years, and unfortunately, the title has eluded him. What’s important for the fans is the championship.
“Money was spent in the summer transfer window. He made certain demands, which were met by the Arsenal board.
“If Arsenal don’t win the championship, I think there will definitely be a change on the bench.
“It’s not going to be easy because you have Liverpool, you have Man City, who are there, and Chelsea won’t be far behind. But I think Arsenal holds the cards and has the players to win the title.”
Arsenal currently sit in the second position on the Premier League table with two points behind leaders Liverpool this season.
