Kano police arrest armed robbery suspects, recover drugs worth over N42m

The Kano State Police Command says it has recorded another major success in its fight against crime with the arrest of suspected armed robbers and the recovery of large quantities of illicit drugs and intoxicants.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said operatives arrested two notorious suspects after a robbery incident that took place on September 14, 2025, at Tokarawa Quarters.

The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Nura Sani from Bauchi State and 35-year-old Ibrahim Lawan from Katsina State, allegedly stormed a residence armed with dangerous weapons. They reportedly carted away a Mercedes Benz GLK valued at ₦26.5m, along with phones and other valuables.

In another operation in Jalli Village, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, police recovered 540 packets of suspected Pregabalin capsules valued at ₦40.5m.

The statement added that on September 30, a surveillance team intercepted two men, Alhaji Isyaku Babayo of K/Mazugal and Mohammed Ahmed of Dorayi Babba, at the Trailer Park in Dangauro. They were allegedly found with seven bags of a liquid intoxicant known locally as “Akuskura.” Each bag contained 350 bottles, bringing the total to 2,450 bottles, valued at ₦2.45m.

The police said the operation was carried out in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). According to SP Kiyawa, the Command has already handed over suspects and recovered drugs — including Tramadol, Pregabalin, and Cannabis Sativa worth over ₦120m — to the NDLEA for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the officers for their bravery and professionalism. He assured residents that efforts were ongoing to arrest other accomplices and recover all stolen items.

“The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state, and we appreciate the continued support and cooperation of members of the public,” CP Bakori said.
