A farmer has been killed after suspected herders attacked a beans farm in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to a post shared on X on Sunday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident happened around 12:20 a.m. on Saturday when about ten herders reportedly led their cattle to graze on a beans farm at Ngolom bush in Monguno.
According to Makama, an eyewitness, Abatcha Abatcha of Gana Ali Ward, said that trouble started when he and other farmers confronted the herders and asked them to leave the farm.
The herders, however, attacked them with sticks.
One of the farmers, identified as Bakulu Bafindi, aged 30, from Sabon Lamba Ward in Maiduguri, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the General Hospital in Monguno, where he was confirmed dead by a medical officer.
His remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy and later released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.
Security forces and local volunteers have since intensified efforts to track down those responsible for the attack.
