Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, has complied with the directive of Governor Alex Otti, by inviting newly recruited teachers in the state to pick their preferred locations for work.
Last month, some new teachers, including married women, rejected the places they were posted to, complaining about the long distance and the inconveniences to their families.
Acting on Governor Otti’s directive, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Lydia Ezihe Onuoha, said in a statement that her office has commenced the process of posting and reposting of the teachers to schools where they will function effectively and contribute meaningfully to the development of the Abia education system.
She urged the teachers to provide their full names, staff identity cards, phone numbers, current places of primary assignment, and their preferred places of primary assignment.
She said the information should be submitted to the ASUBEB Executive Chairman’s office at the Library complex, Umuahia or the ASUBUB contact centre through SMS and WhatsApp number.
The statement further said that posting of the new teachers to their preferred places of duties would enhance fairness, efficiency and quality education sector.
DAILY POST reports that Governor Alex Otti, had last month warned that education officials who refuse to carry out his instructions of positing teachers where they will function optimally, were risking sanction.
