A tech expert and Chief Executive of NAIRAXI, Kingsley Eze, says President Bola Tinubu’s government urgently needs to digitise transit subsidies because it is a national necessity.
Eze disclosed this in a recent interview on Arise News Business Week in Abuja.
His assertion is coming after the Director General of the World Trade Centre and former Nigerian Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, told Tinubu that his safety net expansion would spur real economic growth in Nigeria.
Okonjo-Iweala advised Tinubu to prioritise policies that protect vulnerable populations from worsening economic shocks.
Reacting Eze explained that social safety net expansion must accommodate technology-driven transit subsidies.
He noted that digitised transit subsidies should be prioritised by the government as a springboard to bring down inflation, which stood at 21.88 percent in July 2025.
According to him, digitised transit subsidy intervention is “low-hanging fruit,” which is cost-effective, scalable, and capable of producing immediate relief to millions of Nigerians.
“Without affordable and reliable mobility, Nigerians are cut off from opportunities,”
“The daily struggle to afford transport directly impacts access to jobs, education, and healthcare. It keeps people trapped in cycles of poverty.”
