Abia Warriors put CAF exit behind, beat Remo Stars in Umuahia

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia on Thursday, beat reigning champions, Remo Stars by 2-0 in the rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League match at Umuahia township stadium.

The victory is coming four days after Warriors crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 2-1 on aggregate to Djoliba of Mali.

One goal in each half of the game from Warriors’ maverick forward, Emeka Obioma and captain of the day, Sunday Megwo, handed Remo Stars their second defeat of the season

Remo Stars came out fighting in the second half and were denied a goal in the 53rd minute by the home goalkeeper, Okiemute Odah who made a point-blank save that left Remo Stars startled.

Warrior’s second goal came through a penalty scored by Sunday Megwo, after Suraj Lawal was fouled in the Remo Stars’ box.

Many fans of Abia Warriors who spoke to journalists after the match, praised their team for defeating the reigning NPFL champions, adding that the victory was a consolation for their early exit from CAF Confederations Cup.
