Another body recovered from Third Mainland Bridge accident – LASWA

The Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, has confirmed the recovery of another body from the August 23 accident in which a vehicle plunged off the Third Mainland Bridge into the lagoon.

LASWA General Manager, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos, noting that the body had been released to the deceased’s family.

According to him, while initial reports suggested that only one passenger was involved, further investigation revealed the presence of a second victim, identified as 31-year-old Chado Daniel Danladi of Oremeta Street, Ikeja. Danladi was confirmed to be a colleague of the first victim.

DAILY POST reports that the incident occurred in the early hours of August 23 when a Toyota Camry skidded off the Third Mainland Bridge and plunged into the lagoon.

“The vehicle carried a female passenger identified as Aisha, aged between 25 and 35. Her body was swiftly recovered by divers and handed over to her family,” he said.

Mr Emmanuel added that LASWA’s rescue team, supported by emergency agencies including the Marine Police, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, as well as local fishermen, responded immediately after receiving the distress call.

Mr Emmanuel described the recovery effort as a reflection of the state’s growing capacity to respond swiftly to emergencies on its waterways.

“This incident demonstrates the effectiveness of our coordinated emergency response system and the invaluable role of community support in such situations. LASWA remains committed to ensuring safety and rapid intervention during waterway emergencies,” he stated.
