The Lagos State Government and the All Progressives Congress, APC, have again been plunged into mourning following the death of another female local government official, the fifth such loss recorded in just two months.
The most recent tragedy is the death of Mrs Adebimpe Akintola, Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area, LCDA, and Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State.
Akintola reportedly died on Monday, September 29, 2025, after a brief illness. As a Council Manager, she served as the administrative and accounting head of her LCDA, a role she also represented statewide as leader of her colleagues.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Forum of Council Managers confirmed her death, saying, “With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of our Chairman, Mrs Adebimpe Akintola, on Monday, September 29, 2025. She served as the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her death,” the statement read.
The forum disclosed that her burial would take place on Tuesday, September 30, in line with Islamic rites. The Janazah Prayer is scheduled for Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after Zuhr Prayer at 1:00 p.m., followed by interment at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara, at 2:00 p.m.
Her death has thrown staff at Coker Aguda LCDA and the wider community of council managers into grief, with many describing her death as a significant loss to grassroots governance in Lagos.
Council Managers serve as administrative heads and accounting officers for the 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs across the state, a role also referred to as Head of Administration (HoA).
Mrs Akintola’s death adds to a worrying list of recent losses among female council officials in Lagos. Since the inauguration of the current council administration on July 27, 2025, four others have passed away:
August 13, 2025: Mrs Oluwakemi Rufai, Councillor for Ward C, Ibeju Lekki Local Government.
August 18, 2025: Mrs Zainab Shotayo, Councillor for Ward C, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA.
September 20, 2025: Princess Oluremi Ajose, Vice Chairman, Badagry West LCDA.
September 21, 2025: Mrs Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan, Councillor for Ward F, Somolu Local Government.
