Bandits retreat after gun duel with police in Benue community

Security operatives in Benue State on Sunday thwarted an armed bandits’ assault on Ukohol, a community in Yelewata district of Guma Local Government Area.

According to security reports, the attackers stormed the village in what is believed to be a retaliatory strike following the arrest of one of their members the previous day.

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Daudu was said to have coordinated a joint response team made up of the Special Intervention Squad, SIS, Police Mobile Force, PMF, Operation Zenda, and the Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU. Together, they engaged the criminals in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

The bandits, overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the security forces, eventually retreated.

Residents trapped during the incident were successfully evacuated, with authorities confirming that all but one individual were rescued unhurt.

Police sources further revealed that a search-and-rescue operation, including bush combing, has been launched in the area to track down the fleeing assailants and recover the missing person.
