Borno Police to enforce ban on unauthorized tinted windows from October 2

The Borno State Police Command has said it will start strict enforcement of tinted glass regulations across the state beginning October 2, 2025.

In a statement on Monday, the Command reminded motorists that using tinted windows without a valid permit is illegal under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, the Road Traffic Act of 2004, and other related laws.

The police stressed that, “all individuals using factory-fitted or aftermarket tinted glasses for medical or security reasons must obtain official approval from the Nigeria Police Force before the deadline.”

They further warned that anyone who fails to comply will face legal consequences. Vehicle owners are advised to apply for or renew their permits online before the exercise begins.

According to the Command, the decision follows growing security concerns. Criminals have reportedly used vehicles with dark-tinted windows to hide weapons, abduct people, and avoid security checks.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has instructed officers to carry out the operation professionally and “ensure due process.” He also cautioned that any officer caught misbehaving during the exercise would be disciplined.

The statement appealed to residents for cooperation, explaining that the enforcement is intended to boost public safety and strengthen security across Borno State.
