EPL: Liverpool hero, Steve Nicol slams Arteta over claim Arsenal picked up highest points

Liverpool hero, Steve Nicol, has hit out at Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta over the Spaniard’s recent false claim about his side picking up the most points in the last three Premier League seasons.

Arteta claimed during his prematch press briefing on Friday that Arsenal had picked up the most points in the English top-flight league in the past three seasons and expressed the hope that title glory is very close for the Gunners.

Nicol said the former Manchester City assistant coach is trying to sound clever, but only showed how daft he is.

Arteta spoke ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League season opener against Manchester United on Sunday.

Both teams will lock horns at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

DAILY POST reports that claim by Arteta is inaccurate as Manchester City have picked up the most points in the last three seasons.

Arsenal have 247, while Pep Guardiola’s City have 251.

Reacting to the manager’s claim on ESPN FC, Nicol said that Arteta has not changed since he joined Arsenal “trying to sound clever, it’s just the way he is.”

According to him, the Spaniard will not change even if Arsenal had won the Premier League, adding, “He’s still going to come out with something and we’re still going to have something daft to talk about him. It’s just the way the guy is,”

Arteta has spent 5 seasons at the Emirates Stadium without delivering any major trophy.

Arsenal’s only trophy in the last five years under the Spaniard is a Community Shield and the FA Cup.
