France urges Hamas to accept Trump’s Gaza plan as Italy sees possible ‘Turning Point’

France and Italy have voiced strong support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly unveiled plan to end the war in Gaza, calling on all parties to seize what they describe as a critical opportunity for peace.

French President Emmanuel Macron praised Washington’s initiative, stressing that it offers a clear path to ending hostilities and securing the release of Israeli hostages.

“I expect Israel to engage resolutely on this basis. Hamas has no choice but to immediately release all hostages and follow this plan,” Macron said in a statement posted on X.

Italy echoed the sentiment, describing Trump’s proposal as a potential game changer.

In a statement issued by the office of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Rome said it is ready to work “in close coordination with the United States, European partners, and regional actors” to ensure the plan’s success.

“The proposal presented today by U.S. President Donald Trump could mark a turning point, enabling a permanent cessation of hostilities, the immediate release of all hostages, and full and secure humanitarian access for the civilian population,” the statement read.

The Italian government also pressed Hamas to act decisively, noting that the group, which triggered the conflict with its October 7, 2023 attacks, now has “the opportunity to end it by releasing the hostages, agreeing to have no role in Gaza’s future, and fully disarming.”
