Some religious leaders at Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, have dispelled rumors of possible violence or attacks over the return of the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Abayomi Fasina.
The religious leaders made these declarations in their separate reactions to the rumor of alleged plans to cause violence in the institution by some unscrupulous elements.
DAILY POST gathered that Fasina is expected to resume office on Tuesday, 14th October, 2025, after a six-month research leave granted by the institution’s governing council.
Fasina is expected to resume a day after the acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu, is expected to have completed his six-month tenure.
DAILY POST reports that Shittu is expected to revert to his position as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the institution.
It was however gathered that some elements have been circulating rumors of possible violence and attacks in the institution ahead of the VC’s return next week.
But the leadership of both Christian and Muslim communities within the institution have dispelled rumours of possible violence or attacks by anyone.
The religious leaders in separate statements made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday, insisted that the university community is upbeat ahead of Fasina’s return.
Chaplain of the university, Pastor Samuel Osamuka, in a statement made available to DAILY POST, said that it is inappropriate for anyone to imagine any opposition to the vice-chancellor’s return.
He said, “The VC went on research leave, which he willingly requested and was granted by the university’s Governing Council. So, coming back to the office, you don’t need to ask whether there will be peace or not.
“He is still the substantive Vice-Chancellor, and it is like I have gone on leave, do I need to be calling people, whether I should resume or not? No! So there is no violence in FUOYE, and we should not insinuate that”.
The immediate past Chairman of Muslim community in the institution, Professor Hammed Olaide, in his own contribution, said that the VC’s return could not be subjected to any insinuation of possible violence or rejection.
Olaide said, “The VC only went on leave and has to resume after the expiration of leave. I don’t think there is any issue or roadblock that will prevent him from resuming his official duty.”
