Swift intervention by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, averted what could have been a major disaster after a fire broke out at Bariga Market.
Several shops were consumed by flames before emergency responders arrived to stop the blaze from spreading further. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, with preliminary findings suggesting that the fire began in one of the shops and spread rapidly to others due to the wooden partitions used in constructing many stalls.
LASEMA officials, supported by other first responders, worked tirelessly to bring the situation under control, preventing the flames from reaching adjoining sections of the market.
Their coordinated response also helped to avert any secondary outbreaks.
Although no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded, 26 key-clamp shops were destroyed, and goods valued at several millions of naira were lost to the inferno.
