Gunman kills two police officers, injures another in rural Victoria

Two police officers were shot dead and a third critically injured during a violent standoff in rural Victoria on Tuesday, authorities confirmed.

The incident took place in Porepunkah, a small community at the base of Victoria’s northeast mountains, when officers arrived at a property to execute a warrant linked to historic sexual abuse allegations, according to The Age.

Victoria Police described the situation as “an active incident,” urging residents to stay away from the area while operations continued.

“We will provide further updates once it is safe to do so,” the force said in a statement.

Public broadcaster ABC and other local outlets reported that two officers were killed instantly, a third sustained serious injuries, and the alleged gunman remained at large.
