Heavy rains destroy 70 houses in Jigawa, residents stranded

At least 70 houses have been destroyed following heavy rainfall in Malam Madori local government area of Jigawa State.
The council’s Information Officer, Musa Muhammad disclosed this in a press statement signed and made available to DAILY POST on Monday.

He said many houses were severely damaged or remained surrounded by floodwaters in the area, including Tonikutara, Gandun Sarki, Gandun Bundugoma and Shagari Quarters in Malam Madori local Government area.

He said the incident happened following a heavy rainfall that lasted for many hours on Sunday which overwhelmed water-ways and filled culverts across the area.

Some of the victims appealed to the Jigawa State Government for urgent assistance.

The council chairman of Madori Salisu Sani sympathized with the victims, saying he would notify the state local emergency management committee to assess and report the damages in the affected areas.
