The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, have established a Joint Task Force on Digital Governance and Anti-Corruption to strengthen enforcement of IT project compliance and address corruption risks in government technology investments.
The initiative was unveiled during a courtesy visit by NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, to the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to align mandates in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his vision of building a $1 trillion digital economy free from corruption and inefficiency.
The partnership comes amid growing concerns over losses amounting to billions of naira from failed or abandoned government IT projects, many of which lacked proper clearance, resulting in duplication, inflated costs, and weak technical standards.
The Joint Task Force will combine NITDA’s technical oversight with ICPC’s investigative and prosecutorial powers to ensure strict adherence to IT Project Clearance requirements across all Federal Public Institutions.
According to Inuwa, the IT Project Clearance process is a national safeguard designed to ensure value for money, synergy in government IT spending, and the adoption of globally accepted standards.
In his remarks, the ICPC Chairman commended the collaboration, stressing that corruption in IT procurement undermines economic progress and public trust, and pledged to use the Commission’s statutory powers to enforce compliance and accountability.
Both leaders agreed that the Joint Task Force represents a decisive step toward institutionalizing transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s digital transformation.
The collaboration aims to ensure that public investments in technology deliver tangible value to citizens and contribute to a more transparent and competitive digital economy.
