The buzz stems from 2023, when Hilda Baci broke the 93-hour Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon. Shortly after, Chef Dammy Adeparusi attempted her own 120-hour cook-a-thon.

 

But instead of becoming a serious global challenge, Chef Dammy’s attempt turned into a national comic moment — partly because of the stark contrast in presentation and execution compared to Hilda’s record-breaking event.

 

Following the online frenzy, Chef Dammy took a break from social media and later enrolled in a professional culinary school to hone her skills.

 

Looking back, Chef Dammy revealed that her cook-a-thon was never meant to be a major event. She had intended it as a fun local challenge within her community in Illupeju, Ekiti. But once videos and updates reached Twitter, it went viral — and the rest is history.

 

For context, Hilda Baci had officially announced her 100-hour cook-a-thon in March 2023 and went live with the attempt from May 11 to May 15. Coincidentally, Chef Dammy began her 120-hour attempt on May 11 as well — but hers was never officially filed with the Guinness World Records.
