Kano police, parties sign peace accord ahead of bye-election, re-run

The Kano State Police Command has brought together political parties and candidates to sign a peace accord ahead of the re-run election for Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency and the bye-election for Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency, scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s police public relations officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the meeting was aimed at ensuring the elections are peaceful, secure, and free from violence.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged all parties to stick to the terms of the agreement.

“We expect every stakeholder to carry out campaigns and electoral activities within the law. Any act of lawlessness or violence will be met with swift and decisive action,” he warned.

Bakori also assured voters that the police would deploy enough personnel to protect lives and property during the polls.

“We will provide adequate security so that everyone can participate without fear. We call on all political actors to work with us to make this election peaceful,” the statement added.

The statement further noted that the peace accord was signed by candidates and leaders of various political parties, committing themselves to non-violence before, during, and after the elections.

The police command urged residents to report any security concerns through its emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
