The Lagos State Government has announced plans to shut down both private and commercial terminals as well as jetties between October 3 and 5 in preparation for the E1 Championship, the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing competition.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, the agency explained that the temporary closures are part of safety and security measures designed to guarantee the smooth hosting of the international event.
According to the schedule, there will be a partial closure of waterways from Falomo Bridge to Oriental Hotel on Thursday, October 3, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. A total closure will follow on the stretch between Oriental Hotel and Mekwen Bridge, also from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
LASWA noted that the restrictions are aimed at ensuring public safety on both waterways and adjoining roads, while also projecting Lagos as a global hub for sports tourism.
“The waterways restriction is a vital safety and security measure to ensure seamless event operations, safeguard lives, and project Lagos as a world-class destination for international sporting events,” the statement read in part.
