Leadership crisis: Obi, Otti losers – Abure-led Labour Party

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party, LP, has described the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, as the “losers” in the leadership crisis in the party.

Factional National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, made the claim in a statement on Saturday while reacting to a court ruling on Saturday’s by-elections.

The faction expressed surprise at Interim National Chairman Nenadi Usman and her camp jubilating that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has withdrawn recognition from Julius Abure following a Federal High Court decision on August 15, 2025.

According to the Abure faction, for the records, two cases concerning Labour Party were decided and dismissed on Friday by the court.

It added that one of the cases was filed by Nenadi Usman through one Chris Omofuma, her candidate in the Edo by-election while the other was filed by Abure.

“Are they not playing into the hands of the opposition? Who benefits from all of this saga? Who is the loser? Are Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti not actually the losers in all of these? Are they celebrating because they want the party to die?

“A party that gave them hope when they didn’t have any hope, a party that gave them the platform when they were frustrated by other political parties.

“It is therefore infantile for Nenadi to be circulating the same counter-affidavit as if it were a new document. Their celebration, to us amounts to nothing,” the statement said.
