A known government critic in Adamawa State, Gambo Nakura, who was docked for allegedly insulting the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and some other notable individuals, has been granted bail.
Nakura, the Chairman of a group he named Concerned Citizens of Adamawa, got his temporary freedom Friday after a Yola High Court decided that he could walk free for now if he would guarantee availability for further court proceedings on the strength of a N5 million bail bond and a reliable surety.
The bail came after Nakura had spent 23 days in prison over the alleged defamation of character of the persons of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the wife of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Hajiya Aisha Buhari; Aisha’s brother, Dr. Modi Halilu; and the National Vice Chairman (North-East Zone) of the All Progressives Congress, Mustapha Salihu.
In granting bail to Nakura, the court held that the offences for which he was being held were bailable.
Ruling on the matter, Justice Christopher Mapeo of the Yola High Court, quashed the proceedings of the Chief Magistrate Court II which remanded the applicant in prison custody since September 10, 2025.
The court directed the transfer of the case from the Chief Magistrate Court II to the Upper Area Court II, Yola, for adjudication.
