Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day calls for sober reflection – Rivers ADC laments hardship

The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, on Wednesday lamented the deteriorating security and economic challenges facing the nation at the moment.

In a statement issued to commemorate the 2025 Independence Day celebration, the ADC Chairman, Leader Sampson, urged all well-meaning Nigerians to engage in a sober reflection.

While felicitating with Nigerians, especially Rivers people, on the occasion of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, Sampson called for collective efforts to reclaim the country from alleged bad leaders.

He lauded all freedom fighters who, by “dint of hard work, liberated Nigeria from the vestiges of colonialism and imperialism to the extent that Nigeria is today a sovereign nation.”

“This year’s celebration, especially in the midst of the high level of insecurity and suffering, reminds Nigerians of the tortuous path our great leaders and nationalists went through to achieve self-determination for the people.

“This event calls for a sober reflection on the unity and sanctity of Nigeria in the spirit of our founding fathers, who were united despite tribes, language and religion.

“The 65th Independence celebration of Nigeria also calls for our collective efforts to reclaim our beloved country from the shackles of socio-economic and political woes presently bedeviling it, and to move it to the path of regeneration and growth,” he said.

The party called on the Federal Government to do the needful by ensuring that there is adequate “protection of lives and properties, which is the primary responsibility of every responsible government.”
