The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, has issued a formal apology to the Dangote Group over the mistaken identification of the truck involved in a fatal accident along the Alapako axis of the Papalanto–Ilaro Road on Friday night.
TRACE’s spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, tendered the apology in a statement released on Sunday.
DAILY POST reports that five persons were killed when a truck, initially said to belong to Dangote Cement, lost its brakes and crashed into a tricycle on Friday night.
Akinbiyi clarified that the truck was wrongly attributed to the Dangote Group in the initial statement released after the crash. He stressed that the error was unintentional and was not meant to malign or embarrass the company.
The statement read in part: “Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, an agency of government charged with the administration and control of road traffic matters in the state, apologises to the management of Dangote Cement Factory, Ibese, for erroneously ascribing Dangote Cement Factory, Ibese, as the owner of the third-party truck involved in the unfortunate death of five commuters, who were transiting in a tricycle from Papalanto to Ilaro on Friday, October 3, 2025.”
TRACE described the incident as an “accidental mistake,” expressing regret for any embarrassment caused to the Dangote brand.
“Without a doubt, it was an accidental mistake not made deliberately, and any embarrassment this might have caused the Dangote brand is highly regretted. However, it is hoped this admittance will further rejuvenate the already established relationship and understanding between both organisations for effective service delivery to be achieved,” the statement added.
Akinbiyi also reiterated that the agency remains committed to professionalism and maintaining cordial relationships with stakeholders across the state.
