Onanuga busy attacking Jonathan while bandits take over Kwara – Rufai Oseni

Arise Television’s Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has criticised the Presidency’s attack on former President Goodluck Jonathan, saying government officials should focus on insecurity rather than political battles.

In a post on his Facebook page on Monday, Oseni accused the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, of prioritising verbal attacks on Jonathan while residents of Kwara South were fleeing from banditry.

“Mr Onanuga is busy attacking Jonathan while people are running for safety due to bandits’ activities in Kwara South. Our leaders don’t have empathy at all,” Oseni wrote.

His comments followed a statement issued by Onanuga earlier on Monday in response to renewed calls, particularly from the North, urging Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Onanuga dismissed Jonathan’s record in office, alleging that his administration laid the foundation for Nigeria’s current economic troubles.

“We cannot forget in a hurry how his regime, devoid of any clear economic agenda, engaged in frivolous spending, ran the economy aground, and put the country in dire straits. The downturn that President Tinubu is working very hard to overcome actually began under Jonathan,” Onanuga stated.

The Presidency’s remarks come amid growing political speculation and coalition efforts aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
