OPSH hands over recovered arms, ammunition to NCCSALW

Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), the Special Task Force set up to tackle insecurity in Plateau State, has handed over arms and ammunition recovered from criminals during its operations, to the National Centre For The Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).

Maj. Samson Nantip Zhakom, the Media Information Officer of OPSH who disclosed this in a statement, said the handing over of the weapons which took place on Sunday 17 August 2025, was done by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of the Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.

Zhakom said during the handover ceremony, the GOC noted that the recovery of the weapons was necessary as part of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s determination to stop the senseless bloodletting and insecurity occasioned by the proliferation of Small Arms & Light Weapons (SALW) in circulation within our communities.

Gen. Oyinlola urged members of the public to support the Federal Government in its efforts to eradicate illicit arms in circulation and, by extension, promote an arms-free society.

He added that the OPSH has recorded tremendous successes in stemming the tide of criminal attacks on communities in the state and individuals through kinetic and non-kinetic means.

According to the OPSH spokesperson, a total of 220 small arms and light weapons were recovered from criminal elements from the year 2024 to date, while a total of 1874 rounds of ammunition and 83 cartridges were also recovered during the period under review.
