Assailants suspected to be Fulani militia have reportedly beheaded a 40-year-old farmer identified as Ishaku Abalis, in Panyam District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Da Bulus Dabit, the National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, MDA, who confirmed this while briefing journalists in Jos on Tuesday, said the attack occurred on Monday, when the victim was working on his farm.
Dabit lamented the recurring violence and persistent attacks and kidnapping in Panyam and Pushit Districts in the local government and called on security agencies to intensify efforts in curbing the incessant attacks in the districts and the local council.
The MDA President said during the attack, the victim’s head was cut off and taken away by the killers, adding that the matter has been reported to the Sector Commander of the Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) in Mangu LGA, who has mobilised his officers and men to the scene of the incident and the district.
The MDA’s National President also called for enhanced security presence to prevent the vulnerability of their region, urging for a strategic and robust deployment of security personnel to the affected areas.
He also expressed his support for the creation of state police, noting that local policing was critical to enhancing the operations of federal security in the state.
According to the MDA President, a visible security presence will deter further attacks, instill confidence among residents, and safeguard innocent lives from the hands of the enemies of progress who did not mean well for the state.
