Speaking on Nigeria’s security challenges, Tambuwal explained that the wave of criminality is tied to instability in the Sahel region, particularly the fallout from the collapse of Libya’s government.

According to him, the power vacuum in Libya and unrest across the Sahel opened the floodgates for arms proliferation and militant fighters, many of whom now infiltrate Nigeria’s porous borders.

> “Banditry in Nigeria is driven by both local and foreign elements. The Sahel crisis, especially post-Libya, has contributed significantly. This issue is not new,” Tambuwal said.

The senator stressed that Nigerians must understand the cross-border nature of the crisis, warning against viewing it as a purely domestic issue.
