Taraba: Police arrest two suspected kidnappers, recover AK-47 rifle

The Taraba State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle in Gassol Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued Friday, the command’s spokesperson, James Lashen Saminu, said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, in collaboration with local hunters, raided a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in Mahadi Forest at about 10:00 a.m. on August 13, 2025.

The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Yahaya Umar from Gamu village and 47-year-old Mohammed Umar from Belango village in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.

According to the police, both men confessed to being members of a kidnapping syndicate operating across Plateau and Taraba states.

Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, applauded the operatives for their swift action and reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents.

She also urged the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to aid in the fight against crime across the nooks and crannies of the state.
