Teacher posting: Commissioner directs ASUBEB, SEMB to implement Otti’s orders within fortnight

Abia State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, has directed the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, and the Secondary Education Management Board, SEMB, to ensure that newly recruited teachers are posted to their places of comfort.

Otti had last week warned that education officials who refuse to post new Abia teachers to their areas of comfort are taking significant risks.

Addressing a stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, informed ASUBEB and SEMB to ensure that the matter is resolved in line with Governor Otti’s instructions.

“So, I am here now publicly requesting ASUBEB and SEMB to make sure that in the next two weeks, this matter is settled. His Excellency is too busy to be distracted,” said Ubochi.

The commissioner charged the two agencies to execute their responsibilities through the teacher posting committees they had established.

He appealed for patience and understanding from the concerned teachers, assuring them that their requests would be met.

Ubochi, however, cautioned the new teachers to be dedicated, adding that they must not attempt to retain their previous positions in private schools while employed by the Abia State Government.

The meeting was attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, Kenechukwu Nwosu; the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Lydia Onuoha; and the Director in Charge of SEMB, Ngozi Onwubiko.
