Former British prime minister, Tony Blair has hailed U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly unveiled Gaza peace initiative as the strongest opportunity yet to end the ongoing conflict and secure a long-term settlement for the region.
In his first public statement on the plan, Blair described Trump’s proposal as “a bold and intelligent plan which, if agreed, can end the war, bring immediate relief to Gaza, the chance of a brighter and better future for its people, whilst ensuring Israel’s absolute and enduring security and the release of all hostages.”
Blair, who is expected to serve on an international advisory board chaired by Trump to oversee a transitional government of Palestinian technocrats, said the plan represents “the best chance of ending two years of war, misery and suffering.”
He added, “I thank President Trump for his leadership, determination and commitment.”
The former UK leader also pointed Trump’s decision to personally chair the proposed “Board of Peace,” calling it “a huge signal of support and confidence in the future of Gaza, of the possibility of Israelis and Palestinians finding a path to peace, and of the potential for a broader regional and global alliance to counter the forces of extremism and promote peace and prosperity between nations.”
The U.S. framework closely mirrors earlier proposals advanced by Blair himself, which called for the creation of a transitional Palestinian administration to govern Gaza once the fighting ends.
Blair’s endorsement adds significant diplomatic weight to the Trump plan, which seeks to secure buy-in from Arab and Muslim nations while guaranteeing Israel’s security and paving the way for a demilitarized Gaza under international oversight.
