Troops of Operation FANSAR YAMMA have repelled a bandits’ attack along the Tsafe–Funtua highway in Zamfara State, recovering four motorcycles abandoned by the criminals.
This was contained in a post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Thursday.
The clash reportedly occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, near Marabar Kyaware, when a large group of armed bandits confronted troops on routine patrol.
“The exchange of fire went on for more than an hour, after which the bandits were forced to withdraw, some likely wounded in the process.”
Aliyu Muhammad, popularly known as Rege, a 27-year-old refugee from Magazu, was hit by stray bullets in the chest and died on the spot.
“His remains were released to his relatives for burial,” Makama wrote.
Makama added that an explosive device, later identified as a military mortar bomb, was discovered at the scene and safely detonated by the Police Bomb Disposal Unit from Gusau.
Following the attack, joint security patrols have been intensified along the Tsafe–Funtua highway to prevent further incidents.
