Turkey’s intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin has arrived in Qatar for high-level talks with Hamas representatives over Washington’s proposed plan to end the war in Gaza, Turkish state media reported Tuesday.
Kalin, a close confidant of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was dispatched to Doha as Ankara steps up its mediation role in the conflict.
His visit follows several rounds of direct engagement between Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump, indicating Turkey’s bid to position itself as a key broker in the emerging peace process.
According to reports, Qatar convened the discussions with Hamas and Turkey to deliberate on the Trump plan, which envisions a transitional administration for Gaza and the release of all hostages.
Hamas negotiators are said to be leaning toward accepting the proposal, with a formal response expected to be delivered to mediators tomorrow.
Kalin has previously hosted Hamas leaders in Ankara for talks on Gaza-related issues, but his presence in Doha signals a more public and active role for Turkey in efforts to secure an agreement.
